Our story is a simple one with humble beginnings in the small town of Pyrgos Illias, south-west of Peloponnese in Greece. It begins with Sotirios Theodorelos, a local farmer, who had an incredible passion for all things natural. It was his love and appreciation of natural produce that gave him the life satisfaction he truly desired.
Sotirios was well known in his local village as a modest and genuine man who cared for others before himself. He was always first to lend a helping hand.
It was in 1964 that Sotirios handcrafted his very own authentic Greek coffee blend. Sotirios roasted and prepared his Greek coffee blend based on a family loved traditional recipe. For Sotirios, roasting coffee was akin to a ritual. Sotirios shared his brew with his family, friends and neighbours. Early mornings would see Sotirios meeting friends at the local kafeneio (traditional coffee house), drinking small cups of Greek coffee whilst catching up on news, accompanied by conversation and friendship.
Preserved for more than half a century, Sotirios passed his knowledge and experience onto his grandson Petros Arvanitis, who proceeded to establish a new chapter to the family history with the founding of Metrio Coffee in 2010.
Today, Metrio Coffee emphasises the value of superior quality products that are created with the same care, passion and dedication that Sotirios poured into his unique blends of Greek and Turkish Style Coffees. Like our grandfather Sotirios, we share a passion for coffee that lives and breathes quality. We wish to share that passion with you in every cup of Metrio Coffee.
